Details

The British Rail Class 90 is a classic and versatile electric locomotive that has become a staple of modern British railway modelling. Introduced in 1987–1990 as part of British Rail’s modernization of the West Coast Main Line, a total of 50 Class 90 locomotives were built to haul express passenger services and heavy freight. Designed for 25 kV AC overhead electrification, the Class 90 combined strong performance with reliable operation, capable of running at 110 mph on passenger duties while also handling freight workings with ease.

Class 90s were mainstays on prestigious express trains with operators including InterCity, Virgin Trains, and later Freightliner, DB Cargo UK, and Direct Rail Services, wearing varied liveries from classic BR blue to vibrant private-operator schemes.
