Details
The British Rail Mk3 coach was introduced in 1975 to offer higher comfort standards, responding to growing competition from airlines and private cars. Originally designed and built by BREL as locomotive-hauled stock, the Mk3 was quickly adapted for the High Speed Train (HST), capable of running at speeds up to 125Â mph (220Â km/h). The prototype version first appeared in 1972 with ten coaches, paving the way for full production until 1988, while Mk3-based multiple units continued into the early 1990s.
At 75Â ft (23Â m) long, the Mk3 was ten feet longer than its Mk2 predecessor and featured monocoque construction with an all-welded mild steel stressed skin, offering a smooth, quiet ride. Virgin Trains operated several Mk3 sets with its HST power cars, later moving most on to other operators following the introduction of Pendolinos. One set was retained for peak services and refurbished at Doncaster to match Pendolino and Voyager liveries before transfer to Abellio Greater Anglia in 2014.
This highly detailed OO gauge coach pack includes three Trailer Second coaches and a Trailer First, allowing model railway enthusiasts to recreate an authentic HST formation with remarkable accuracy and style.
