Details

The TTA tank wagons were introduced by British Rail in the 1960s to replace ageing smaller-capacity tanks inherited from private-owner fleets. Built in their thousands, these wagons were designed for the safe transport of oil and petroleum products, providing higher capacity and modern construction compared with older designs. Production continued into the 1970s, and many TTA wagons remained in service well into the early 2000s, making them a familiar sight on British freight lines for decades and an iconic example of mid-20th-century tank wagon design.
