Details

Based on the Railway Clearing House standard tank wagon design of 1907, hundreds of these 12-ton wagons were used by private owners to transport liquid products, including fuel oil and kerosene. The tanks were mounted on wooden frames and secured with steel bracing straps, providing a simple yet effective means of carrying liquids. Common throughout the 1960s, they were gradually replaced by larger capacity tank wagons, though some examples remained in service into the 1980s, making them a notable feature of mid-20th-century British private owner freight operations.
