Details

Add classic pre-nationalisation freight character to your layout with the Hornby TT:120 LMS 12T Vent Van, running number 581932. This highly detailed model represents a standard ventilated goods wagon used extensively across the London, Midland & Scottish Railway network for general merchandise traffic during the grouping era.

Vent vans like this were designed to allow continuous airflow through the wagon body via roof and side ventilators, making them ideal for transporting goods that required ventilation such as packaged foodstuffs, textiles, and other general freight. They were a common sight in mixed goods trains throughout the 1930s and remained in use well into the early British Railways period.

This model accurately captures the LMS crimson lake livery, reflecting the company’s distinctive pre-nationalisation branding. It is perfectly suited for Era 3–4 layouts and works seamlessly in mixed freight consists alongside other LMS wagons and early BR stock.

Finished in classic LMS crimson lake, this model features finely moulded plank-style body panels, realistic roof ventilators, and detailed underframe equipment. It represents a versatile goods wagon used across the LMS network for a wide variety of general freight duties.

The wagon pairs naturally with steam-era freight locomotives such as the London Midland and Scottish Railway Stanier Black Five or earlier LMS freight engines, making it ideal for authentic pre-nationalisation goods trains.

The LMS 12-ton ventilated van was a standard freight design used widely throughout the grouping era (1923–1947). Built in large numbers, these wagons formed the backbone of general merchandise traffic across the LMS network, ensuring goods could be transported safely while maintaining airflow where required.

Many examples continued into early British Railways service after 1948, demonstrating the durability and practicality of their design. They remained a common feature of freight operations until gradually replaced by more modern wagon types.
