First flown in 1935, the Bf 109 featured an all-metal monocoque construction, retractable landing gear, and a closed canopy. Powered by the Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine, it achieved speeds up to 400 km/h. Over 34,000 units were produced, making it the most produced fighter aircraft in history. The Bf 109 was flown by top aces like Erich Hartmann, who scored 352 kills. It remained in service until the end of the war and continued to be used by several countries post-war.
