Introduced to United States Army units in 1944, the M24 was developed to replace the ageing M3 and M5 Stuart light tanks, offering improved firepower, protection, and battlefield performance.

The M24 Chaffee featured a significantly revised design compared to its predecessors, with a focus on improved mobility and combat effectiveness. It quickly earned a strong reputation for reliability and versatility, and is widely regarded as one of the best light tanks ever produced.
