As a direct evolution of the earlier Soviet T-54, the T-55 was introduced in the post-World War II era and became the backbone of Red Army and Warsaw Pact armoured forces for decades.

Designed around a simple yet highly effective engineering concept, the T-55 combined strong armour protection with reliable performance and low production costs. Its straightforward construction also made it easier to maintain in field conditions, which contributed greatly to its long service life and widespread adoption.

The tank was armed with a dependable 100 mm main gun, providing effective firepower for Cold War battlefield requirements. Its balance of protection, mobility, and simplicity made it one of the most successful armoured vehicles ever built.
