Historical Background

Truss log cars were developed during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries for use on North America's extensive logging railroads. Their truss-rod reinforced construction provided additional strength while keeping overall weight low, allowing them to carry heavy timber loads over temporary track laid deep into forested regions.
