This faired single-seater, discovered in 1991 and which won the World Endurance Championship hands down, returned to the USA the following year with the intention of winning the IMSA Camel GT Championship. At Laguna Seca , 9 th round of the Championship a 2 nd Jaguar takes the start. The n ° 3 is piloted by the Dutchman Ari Luyendijk. This is his first race on an XJR-14, his main task is to get used to driving on the right. Luyendijk's car is fitted with a rectangular spoiler at the front that we had not yet seen and the fuel cap is positioned on the left.

If the Friday practice goes well for the 2 cars, the Saturday tests are disturbed by problems. A transmission failure delays Jones, and Luyendijk misses a full session when his engine and gearbox are replaced following an accident. Juan Manuel Fangio II in his Toyota n ° 99 took advantage of these inconveniences to take the reins of the race and the Championship. He pocketed pole in front of Jones and dominated the race from start to finish. A short 2 times, Davy Jones reached second place but had to settle for the 3 rd place on the podium. As for Ari Luyendijk, he started in 6 th position and had a decent race. He finished fourth, honorable position for the first time.
