Historical Background

The Furka-Oberalp Railway was one of Switzerland's most important metre-gauge mountain railways, linking Brig in the canton of Valais with Disentis/Mustér in Graubünden. Traversing some of the most spectacular scenery in the Alps, the railway became internationally renowned as a key section of the famous Glacier Express route.

Throughout the latter half of the twentieth century, standard-design passenger coaches such as B 4263 formed the backbone of the railway's passenger fleet. These vehicles provided comfortable accommodation for both local travellers and tourists exploring the Swiss Alps. Their reliable service and distinctive appearance made them a familiar sight on Furka-Oberalp trains throughout the 1990s.

Following the merger of the Furka-Oberalp Railway with the Brig-Visp-Zermatt Railway in 2003, the route became part of the modern Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn.
