Historical Background
The Stadler Regio Shuttle RS1 is one of Europe's most successful modern diesel multiple units, introduced in the late 1990s for regional and branch line services. Its lightweight construction, low operating costs and excellent passenger visibility made it popular with railway operators throughout Germany and beyond.
The Württemberg Railway Company (WEG) operates Class 650 railcars on local passenger services across southern Germany. In 2025, VT 442 received a special commemorative livery celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Tälesbahn, one of the region's best-known local railways. The distinctive anniversary design makes this vehicle a particularly attractive and unusual prototype for modern-era railway enthusiasts.
