Details
The Märklin 39513 brings a classic Swiss electric locomotive to H0 gauge with a highly detailed model of the iconic SBB Be 4/6. Depicting locomotive No. 12323 in its final years of service during the early 1970s, this beautifully engineered model captures the distinctive appearance of the rebuilt locomotives that worked Switzerland's main lines for over half a century. Finished in traditional fir green with a traffic grey chassis, the model features numerous prototype-specific details including Integra-Signum equipment, sanding gear, cooling pipes and the characteristic articulated running gear.
Built to Märklin's premium standards, the locomotive is equipped with an mfx+ digital decoder offering extensive sound and lighting functions. A centrally mounted high-efficiency motor with flywheel drives both powered bogies via cardan shafts, ensuring smooth and reliable performance. Additional features include separately switchable cab and machine room lighting, authentic Swiss lighting configurations, directional LED headlights and highly detailed roof equipment. The articulated chassis allows excellent curve negotiation while maintaining the locomotive's distinctive prototype appearance.
Ideal for Epoch IV Swiss railway layouts, the Märklin 39513 is a superb choice for hauling express passenger trains and classic SBB coaching stock.

Historical Background
Introduced by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) between 1920 and 1923, the Be 4/6 was among Switzerland's first generation of powerful main-line electric locomotives. Designed during the rapid electrification of the Swiss railway network, the class was built to handle both passenger and freight services over demanding routes where electric traction offered significant advantages over steam locomotives. Their distinctive articulated design provided excellent running characteristics while accommodating the heavy electrical equipment required by early electric locomotives.
Over the decades, the class underwent numerous modifications and modernisations, allowing them to remain in frontline service long after many contemporary locomotives had been withdrawn. The rebuilt examples, including No. 12323, continued operating into the 1970s, becoming a familiar sight on Swiss railways during a period of significant technological change. Today, the Be 4/6 remains an important milestone in European electric locomotive development and a popular subject among railway enthusiasts and model railway collectors.
