Model Details

The DAF 1100 Pritsche/Plane “Neutral” by Lemke Collection is a highly detailed 1:160 scale N gauge truck model representing one of the classic medium-duty commercial vehicles that helped shape European freight transport during the 1970s and 1980s. This precision miniature captures the rugged practicality of the legendary DAF cab-over truck design with an authentic flatbed and tarpaulin (“Pritsche/Plane”) body configuration ideal for realistic logistics and freight scenes.

Designed for model railway enthusiasts, truck collectors, and industrial diorama builders, the DAF 1100 combines classic European commercial styling with accurate proportions and realistic detailing. The neutral livery version offers exceptional flexibility for custom transport layouts, freight terminals, warehouse scenes, and period-correct logistics displays.

The original DAF medium-duty truck family formed part of the famous European “Vierer-Club” (“Club of Four”) cooperation project introduced in 1975, alongside Magirus, Volvo, and Renault/Saviem. This groundbreaking partnership standardised major cab and chassis components to reduce production costs while allowing each manufacturer to retain its own engines and brand identity, becoming one of the most important collaborations in European truck engineering history.

Historical Background

The DAF 1100 was part of the successful generation of medium-duty European commercial vehicles developed during the rise of modern international freight transport. Built for durability, versatility, and efficient regional distribution work, these trucks became a common sight across European roads throughout the late 20th century.

As a participant in the historic “Club of Four” programme, DAF collaborated with Magirus, Volvo, and Renault/Saviem to create a shared truck platform that modernised medium-duty truck production across Europe. While the cab structure and many engineering components were shared, each manufacturer developed its own driveline and styling, giving every truck a distinct identity.

The flatbed and tarpaulin (“Pritsche/Plane”) versions were especially popular for regional freight transport, construction supply deliveries, and general cargo operations due to their flexibility and ease of loading.
