Dapol Announce New Dogfish Wagons

Dapol are pleased to announce that they will be reintroducing new Dogfish wagons.

The Catfish and Dogfish were British Rail's standard small ballast hopper wagons, with nearly 2,000 units constructed between 1955 and 1961. These wagons had a 14-foot wheelbase and measured 22 feet 6 inches over the headstocks. The Dogfish model was engineered to transport 24 tons of ballast. All units were equipped with vacuum brakes from the outset, and numerous examples remained operational into the 1990s. In 2000, a program was initiated to retrofit surviving Dogfish wagons with air brakes. Nevertheless, the final examples of these types were decommissioned in 2006. Many have been preserved for historical purposes.

These models feature:

  • Finely moulded body with many separately added details
  • Accurately applied livery and painted details
  • NEM pockets with self-centring couplings
