Dapol Announce New OO Scale IOA & JNA Wagons

The latest Dapol announcements bring modern infrastructure traffic to the forefront with the addition of new Network Rail engineers’ wagons, featuring both JNA “Falcon” ballast wagons and IOA high-sided ballast wagons in the familiar Network Rail yellow livery. Built by Astro Vagone in Romania, the JNA wagons entered service in 2004 and were designed specifically for carrying ballast and spoil, featuring a reinforced central discharge door for easier inspection and unloading. Often seen working in rakes of five, these distinctive wagons have become a common sight across the UK rail network and are affectionately nicknamed “Falcon.”

Complementing them are the IOA ballast wagons, another Romanian-built design introduced in 2009. These high-capacity wagons, capable of carrying up to 102 tonnes, are typically operated in longer block trains of ten or more vehicles and are widely used on engineering and renewal trains. Known by the nickname “Mussel,” the IOA wagons provide a strong visual presence in Network Rail engineering formations, making these new releases ideal additions for modellers recreating modern maintenance and infrastructure operations.
