Dapol has unveiled an extensive new range of GWR Toplight coaches, bringing these distinctive early 20th-century vehicles to life in a wide variety of liveries and formations. Originally built between 1914 and 1920, the prototypes featured steel-panelled sides with elegant bolection mouldings and characteristic frosted-top-light windows, all mounted on Churchward 9ft bogies. Designed to run as fixed formations of brake thirds, composites, and all-thirds, with left- and right-hand variants that allowed corridor windows to align on one side, these coaches were a familiar sight on cross-country and main-line services. Reflecting this operational flexibility, Dapol’s new releases span multiple eras from GWR crimson lake through to BR crimson and cream, offering modellers the opportunity to recreate authentic, prototypical rakes across a broad timeline of Great Western and early British Railways operation.
