Main Lines: 27th September 2025
Welcome to this week's Main Lines.
Over the past week, UK railways have seen notable developments. The government is supporting the return of international rail to Kent stations, challenging Eurostar’s monopoly, while Scotland announced a £140 million investment to electrify the East Kilbride line. East Midlands Railway is preparing to roll out its long-delayed Class 810 “Aurora” trains, and the Cross City Line in Birmingham celebrated carrying 12 million passengers in its first year with new electric units. In freight, shipping giant CMA CGM acquired Freightliner UK, and the industry is preparing to mark 200 years since the world’s first passenger railway.
In model railway news, this week has seen a flurry of releases from manufacturers Hornby and Rapido Trains UK, as well as Fleischmann and Piko to name a few. Walthers have announced a new paint shop kit, and we have all the latest items arriving with us this week, too.
