PECO has announced the welcome return of its popular 4-wheel grain hopper wagons, bringing these distinctive models back to the range with a series of thoughtful refinements. While based on existing tooling, the reissued models now feature metal wheels fitted as standard and benefit from improved livery application, resulting in a sharper, more consistent finish that sits comfortably alongside other N scale stock. Finished in a selection of eye-catching designs, these wagons offer both visual appeal and historical interest for modellers and collectors alike.
First introduced in 1966 for Associated British Maltsters Ltd and Scottish Malt Distillers, these wagons, known as COVHOPs, were primarily used to transport grain from East Anglia to distilleries in Scotland. In a distinctive twist, many later carried whisky brand advertising, effectively turning them into moving billboards, though most of these promotional liveries had disappeared by the early 1970s.
