Rapido Trains UK Announcement
Salt has played a vital role in British industry and culture for centuries, far beyond its common uses like seasoning food or clearing icy driveways. The UK, with Cheshire at its heart, has been a major producer of salt, thanks to its abundant ancient salt marshes and rock salt deposits. These areas, known as “The Wiches,” are even mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, highlighting salt’s deep historical significance.
Salt’s preservative qualities made it essential for transporting food both nationally and internationally, with huge quantities exported via major ports such as Liverpool long before it became famous for music and comedy. It was widely used in dairy and meat industries, as well as the chemical sector for producing bleaches, chloroform, and PVC. Additionally, salt’s water-softening properties made it indispensable to papermakers in hard water regions.
Rapido Trains UK are please to announce the addition of the RCH (1907) Salt Van to their vast collection of OO Gauge Wagons.
