Designed for use on traditional Ffestiniog Railway freight services, these brake vans played an important role in train operation and crew accommodation on the historic slate railway.

The prototype featured a distinctive double balcony design, a characteristic feature of Ffestiniog Railway brake stock used across both operational and preserved eras. One of the original vans remained in use with preservationists until 1963, highlighting its long working life and importance to the railway’s goods operations.

This model represents the 1998-built replica, which was initially finished in preservation-era lettering styled after Van No.1 (as seen on GR580A). Around 2016, the replica was repainted and re-lettered into the earlier 1920s-style Ffestiniog Railway lettering, which is the version represented by this model.
