The Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS1 is a highly successful diesel multiple unit (DMU) built by Stadler Rail (originally under the DWA brand) for regional and local passenger services across Germany and other European countries. Introduced in the late 1990s, the RS1 was designed to provide reliable, efficient and comfortable operation on non-electrified routes where conventional trains were less economical.

The RS1 features a centre-low-floor design, allowing easy access for passengers and fast boarding at smaller regional stations. Its modular construction enables flexible train length by coupling multiple units, and the railcar’s diesel powerpack delivers smooth acceleration and strong performance on branch lines, rural regional networks and commuter routes.
