History:
The Westland Puma HC.1 is a twin-engined medium-lift helicopter, licence-built in the UK by Westland Helicopters under agreement with French company Aérospatiale. It first entered service with the Royal Air Force in 1971, replacing earlier transport types. Designed for flexibility, the Puma could carry up to 16 fully equipped troops (or 6 stretchers for casualty evacuation), and transport over two tonnes of freight internally or via underslung load. Its adaptability and reliability made the Puma a backbone of RAF tactical transport for decades, deploying on operations worldwide.
