?The Boeing 737-800 is a twin-engine, narrow-body jet developed as part of the 737 Next Generation (NG) series. Launched in 1994 and entering service in 1998 with Hapag-Lloyd Flug (now TUIfly), it replaced the 737-400 and competes with the Airbus A320. The aircraft accommodates up to 189 passengers in a single-class layout or 162 in a two-class configuration. Powered by CFM56-7B engines, it offers a range of approximately 5,765 km. Noted for its fuel efficiency, the 737-800 burns about 850 US gallons per hour, roughly 80% of the fuel consumed by the MD-80 it often replaced. As of May 2019, Boeing had delivered 4,979 737-800s, making it the most popular variant in the 737NG family. Major operators include Ryanair, with a fleet exceeding 400 aircraft. The model also serves as the basis for the 737-800BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter) program, converting passenger jets into cargo aircraft. The 737-800 remains widely used globally, valued for its reliability and operational efficiency.
