History:

The Lockheed L-1049G Super Constellation (often simply “L-1049G”) is a long-range, four-engine piston-airliner developed by Lockheed Corporation as part of the Lockheed Constellation family. It first flew on 17 December 1954 and entered commercial service in 1955 with a number of airlines.

The “Super G” featured more powerful turbo-compound Wright R-3350 radial engines and a stretched fuselage compared with earlier models. Typical capacity ranged from about 62 to 95 passengers (or up to 106 depending on configuration), carried by a crew of four to five. It could cruise at roughly 300 mph (˜ 483 km/h) and had a maximum range of up to around 8,700 km (˜ 5,400 mi) with full fuel. The L-1049G became one of the most successful piston-engine airliners of its era, widely used in international and transatlantic routes until gradually replaced by jet airliners.
