History:

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk IIa is an early-World War II British single-seat fighter, an upgraded version of the Spitfire Mk I. It entered service from September 1940. The Mk IIa uses a more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin XII V-12 piston engine producing about 1,175 hp, improving performance over the Mk I.

Dimensions: 9.12 m length, 11.23 m wingspan, single-pilot. Armed with eight 0.303 in (7.7 mm) Browning machine-guns in the wings. Typical performance: maximum speed ˜ 570 km/h at ~5,350 m altitude; service ceiling ~11,450 m; range ~637 km (internal fuel); time to climb to 6,100 m about 7 minutes. In short, the Spitfire Mk IIa combined the Spitfire’s famed agility and handling with improved engine power — making it one of the RAF’s frontline fighters during the early years of WWII.
