In 1996, SBB introduced multiple-unit operation for long-distance services, prompting the acquisition of 60 IC Bt-type driving trailers. Each 62-seat vehicle is based on the proven EuroCity carriage concept, offering practical passenger facilities including dedicated spaces for wheelchairs, strollers, and bicycles, alongside a closed toilet system featuring an environmentally friendly bioreactor. The design of the driver’s cab and the front profile closely matches that of the Re 460 locomotives, creating a uniform and modern appearance across SBB’s long-distance fleet.
