DB Dbmue 2nd Class Bi-Level Coach Set (2) IV

In 1971, VEB Waggonbau Görlitz delivered two prototypes of the double-decker single carriage to the DR. The double-decker single carriages were expected to allow more flexible adaptation to changing passenger volumes and to save on damage. After extensive testing of the two prototypes, a first series of around 138 vehicles was delivered from 1974. The lower deck of these cars was fully equipped with seats. They were initially used in the southern metropolitan areas and on routes with high traffic volumes. Just five years later, these vehicles were repainted in “fawn-birch grey” – which earned them the nickname “Senftöpfchen” (little mustard pot).
