CSD T478 1209 Diesel Locomotive IV

The T 478.1 series is a diesel-electric universal locomotive. Between 1966 and 1971, 230 series locomotives were built for the CSD in the CKD factory in Prague. The locomotive reaches a top speed of 100 km/h. The 6-cylinder engine with turbocharger produces 1,500 hp. Their field of work ranged from international express trains to passenger trains and from heavy freight trains to "collectors" (shunting freight trains). They could also be found in the border stations of the surrounding countries. The protruding projections under the front windows quickly earned them the nickname "Bardotka", loosely named after Brigitte Bardot, the French actress.
