MAV M62 129 Diesel Locomotive IV

In 1965, the Hungarian State Railways (MAV) received the first diesel locomotive, the M62 001, from the Lugansk production facility. This was followed by another 288 locomotives, which were nicknamed "Szergej" in Hungary. As the M62 did not have a heating system, a separate heating car always had to be carried when used in front of passenger trains. As the locomotives were very expensive to maintain and were not particularly popular with the staff due to the noise they generated, they were later mainly used in front of heavy freight trains.
