From 1992 onwards, the enhanced Class 112.1 locomotives were jointly procured by Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR). The most striking external difference from the earlier Class 112.0 is the combination of large headlights and taillights into compact halogen units.
