This 1:35 scale kit depicts the M21, a self-propelled mortar carrier based on the reliable M3 half-track chassis, designed to deliver mobile indirect fire support to infantry units in combat.

The real M21 Mortar Carrier was developed in the mid-war period to improve battlefield mobility for mortar teams. It mounted a 81 mm M1 mortar in an open rear fighting compartment, allowing crews to quickly deploy, fire, and reposition as needed. Based on the proven M3 half-track design, it combined front-wheel steering with rear tracked propulsion, giving it strong cross-country performance while maintaining good road speed and reliability.
