The Wiking Feuerwehr LF 16 (Magirus) is a finely detailed 1:87 scale model representing one of the most widely used classic German fire engines of the post-war era. Finished in authentic Feuerwehr red with period-correct detailing, it depicts a Magirus LF 16 Löschgruppenfahrzeug, a standard group fire engine used by fire brigades across Germany for decades.

Historical Background

The Magirus LF 16 was one of the defining German fire appliances of the 1950s through 1980s, built by Magirus-Deutz in Ulm. It became a core vehicle in thousands of fire brigades across West Germany due to its reliability, robust chassis design, and standardised firefighting equipment layout.

The LF 16 was designed as a Löschgruppenfahrzeug (group fire engine), typically carrying a full crew along with equipment for structural firefighting. Its configuration usually included a water tank and fire pump system, portable ladders and roof-mounted equipment, hose storage and basic rescue tools, as well as seating for a full firefighting crew.

Magirus LF 16 vehicles were a key part of Germany’s post-war fire service modernisation, forming the backbone of municipal fire departments before being gradually replaced by more modern LF 8, LF 16/12, and later HLF series appliances.
