Gaugemaster

Gaugemaster Controls was formed in 1975 as an electronic sub-assembly business in Worthing and in the intervening years grew to become one of the most important brands in the world of British Railway Modelling
The first Gaugemaster Controller was produced in 1977, meeting the demand for modern electronic controllers for the adult modeller which at that time was not being catered for. These controllers were originally made in Worthing, West Sussex but with distribution of these products now established to a thriving UK trade, establishing Gaugemaster as the largest UK producer of model railway controllers, it was soon necessary to find larger premises. Therefore in the Spring of 1988, Gaugemaster purchased the Station Goods Yard at Ford Railway Station near Arundel in West Sussex and after planning and other preparations, site clearance and building commenced in August 1988 and was completed in March 1989.
With numerous distribution and wholesale ranges added to the mix, the Gaugemaster brand was soon establishing itself as a force in model railways so diversified into model railway accessories as well as the controllers they were best known for.
Gaugemaster were of course part of the Digital (DCC revolution), partnering with American company MRC and launching a UK version of the Prodigy Advance system in 2005.
Gaugemaster purchase other successful brands along the way including Tiny Signs, SEEP and Kestrel Designs cementing their position as a significant player in the industry and their biggest strategic move to date was the acquisition of Norfolk company Train Tech, well known for their large range of electronic model railway products, in 2021.
In 2024, Gaugemaster introduced their innovative INFINITY control systems which offered wireless analogue control as well as a digital counterpart. Designed and made in the UK, this family of products will secure Gaugemaster’s position at the forefront of model railway control technology.
In 2025, the Gaugemaster brand offers almost an entire system across multiple types of scales and genres including Controllers, Point Motors, Starter Sets, Locomotives, Rolling Stock, Plastic Building Kits, Scenery and Tools. Although now a thoroughly modern organisation, there is always a reminder of the past as our lifetime guarantee on our analogue controllers means we are frequently in touch with our heritage. This serves a timely reminder of how putting our customer first, continues to serve us well.
