Humbrol
Humbrol, established in 1919 as the Humber Oil Company, has evolved over a century into a leading manufacturer of superior quality paints and modelling products. Initially supplying bicycle oil to cyclists in Hull, the company expanded into paint production in 1935 with the introduction of 'Art Enamel' for cycle renovation. This expansion marked the beginning of Humbrol's journey into the modelling industry. Â
Product Range:
-
Paints: Humbrol offers an extensive selection of paints, including enamel and acrylic varieties, available in both tinlets and aerosol sprays. Their colour range has grown from the original twelve shades to over 170, catering to diverse modelling needs.
-
Brushes & Airbrushes: To complement their paints, Humbrol provides a variety of brushes and airbrushes, facilitating precise application for both novice and experienced modellers.
-
Adhesives & Fillers: Recognising the importance of assembly in modelling, Humbrol offers a range of adhesives and fillers designed to ensure durability and a seamless finish in model construction.
-
Weathering Products: For enthusiasts aiming to add realistic effects to their models, Humbrol's weathering powders and washes provide the tools necessary to achieve authentic wear and ageing.Â
Recent Developments:
In 2006, Humbrol became part of Hornby Hobbies Ltd, aligning itself with other iconic brands such as Airfix, Hornby model railways, Scalextric, and Corgi. This acquisition has allowed Humbrol to broaden its product range, focusing on model railways and wargaming, and to rebrand products targeting the growing hobby and craft market.
Â
Demonstrating a commitment to quality and local manufacturing, Humbrol relocated over 60% of its production back to the UK from China in 2012. This move aimed to improve supply chains and maintain high-quality standards, with enamel paints and new acrylic paints and sprays now produced in London, the North-East, and Manchester.Â
Â
Today, Humbrol's extensive product line includes over 460 different products and accessories, solidifying its status as a trusted name among modellers and hobbyists worldwide.
