Details

Following on from the Mk3 coach, the Mk4s were built between 1989 and 1992 at Metro-Cammell’s Washwood Heath facility for the newly electrified InterCity 225 services on the East Coast Main Line.

A total of 282 carriages were constructed to maintain a fleet of 30 fixed nine-car formations, each operating with a Class 91 locomotive at one end and a Driving Van Trailer (DVT) at the other, allowing trains to run in both directions without turning the locomotive.

The Mk4 features an all-steel design with several improvements over the Mk3, most notably automatic push-button plug-type doors replacing manually operated slam doors. The body shells, built by BREL and Breda (Milan), also include fully sealed gangways and controlled emission toilets (CETs).

This OO gauge model coach is a detailed replica of a Driving Van Trailer (DVT) in BR InterCity livery, complete with full-width cab, luggage compartment, and train manager’s office, accurately representing the operational functionality of the original vehicle.
