Historical Background

The British Rail Mark 3 coaching stock was developed in the late 1960s and introduced during the 1970s as part of British Rail’s push to modernise long-distance passenger services.

Originally designed for the InterCity 125 High Speed Train (HST) programme, the Mk3 coaches were revolutionary for their time.
