Details
Complete your British Rail coaching stock with the Hornby BR Mk1 Composite Corridor Coach M15848 (TT4076C), produced in TT:120 scale (1:120).
Finished in the later British Rail blue and grey livery, this Mk1 Composite Corridor (CK) coach represents the evolution of BR passenger services into the modern era. Combining both first and second-class compartments, it provides operational flexibility while maintaining prototypical accuracy for mixed-class train formations.
Designed to integrate seamlessly with other Hornby TT:120 rolling stock, this model features finely rendered detailing, accurate proportions, and smooth running performance—ideal for recreating realistic BR-era passenger services from the late 1960s onwards.
Historical Background
The British Railways Mark 1 coaching stock was introduced following the nationalisation of Britain’s railways in 1948, when a standardised design was needed to replace the wide variety of inherited rolling stock.
Constructed between 1951 and 1963, Mk1 coaches were designed as a versatile “go anywhere, do anything” solution suitable for all regions and services across the network.
The design incorporated improved strength and safety, using steel construction and robust underframes, while offering both compartment and open layouts depending on configuration.
Mk1 coaches quickly became the backbone of British Rail passenger services throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Their durability ensured a long operational life, with many remaining in service in various forms well into the late 20th century and even beyond on heritage railways.
