Coming Soon From Le Mans Minatures: The Porsche 928s

Among the many storied entries in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one car stands apart—not for its podium finish, but for its sheer presence and the unconventional path it took. In 1983, a single Porsche 928 took to the legendary circuit, piloted by an all-French crew. Though met with initial skepticism, the team’s determination and the challenges they faced during the race quickly earned the admiration of fans. The car ultimately crossed the finish line—first in its class, yet officially unranked.

Visually, the Porsche 928 was a standout. Its design, a bold expression of late 1970s and early 1980s aesthetics, blended sweeping lines with a wide, muscular stance. The car’s distinctive harlequin-colored livery only added to its enigmatic appeal, ensuring it caught the eye of spectators and remains memorable to this day.

More than just a race entry, this 928 symbolises the spirit of perseverance and individuality—qualities that continue to resonate with motorsport enthusiasts around the world.

Adding a touch of eccentricity to the Porsche 928 story is the unique “Polizei” tribute version—an unmistakable nod to German police vehicles. Spotted on the streets of Alderley Edge in the UK in 2016 and later showcased in Coventry, this one-off model eventually went under the hammer at CCA Everyman Classics in September 2018, fetching $6,812 with 157,000 km on the clock.

Unlike its Le Mans racing counterpart, the Polizei version features distinct front and rear bodywork, a modified chassis, and several unique details, including side bars, square external mirrors, and a repositioned exhaust outlet at the rear left. Notably, this car is right-hand drive, contrasting with the racing model, and rides on a completely different set of rims. In its slot car recreation, Le Mans Minatures brings the Polizei 928 to life with raised headlights, flickering blue gyro lights, and realistic glowing tail lamps, capturing the playful yet precise spirit of this curious classic.
