Dapol Announce New O Scale Brake Vans
Dapol is delighted to announce the launch of their third production run of British Rail Standard 20T Brake Vans with brand new liveries, along with some old favourites.
The basis of the standard BR Goods Brake Van was the LNER āToad Eā, which had several modifications during early construction. Most notably, the full-length footboards extending from headstock to headstock and the provision of horizontal grab rails along the edge of the concrete end platforms were amended.
Up to 1955, vans were fitted with oil-lubricated axle boxes. Later roller bearing axle boxes were fitted as standard, and from 1957, Oleo self-contained pneumatic buffers replaced the spindle type. In all, 4632 vans were produced for British Railways at Darlington works, with a final lot at Ashford. Lot 3402 referred to the construction of six standard goods vans to BR Diagram 1/507 for London Transport in 1962. The last of these brake vans were withdrawn in the early 1990s.
