Dapol’s latest OO scale announcements celebrate the enduring appeal of industrial steam with a new range of Hawthorn Leslie 0-4-0 saddle tank locomotives. Covering a variety of attractive industrial liveries, this release includes well-known names such as ‘Taw’, ‘Invincible’ and ‘Fearless’, alongside Port of London, NCB and FD & EC examples, all offered across analogue, DCC-fitted and DCC sound options. With their compact proportions and characterful detailing, these models are ideally suited to shunting layouts, industrial scenes and heritage settings.
The prototypes date back to the prolific output of Hawthorn Leslie and Company, formed in 1886 and responsible for building thousands of locomotives for both mainline and industrial use. The 0-4-0 saddle tanks, produced between 1899 and 1924, became a familiar sight across ironworks, collieries and power stations, with many remaining in service well into the 1970s. Several examples have since been preserved, underlining their historical significance. This latest release from Dapol captures the versatility and longevity of these hardworking locomotives, bringing a classic piece of British industrial heritage to modern layouts.
