Rapido Trains UK adds to their growing pre-grouping brake van range with an Iconic LNWR design of Brake Van.
Rapido Trains UK proudly announces their latest piece of LNWR freight stock, the OO Gauge LNWR Dia.17B Brake Van, better known to many as the ‘Crystal Palace’ Brake. First introduced in 1917 by the London and North Western Railway, the Dia.17B brake Van design was conceived as a general-purpose 20-ton brake.
Given that LNWR records show that their overall brake van numbers didn’t increase during this period, it is a fair assumption that these were all built as direct replacements for any dated and condemned stock. A total of 539 vans were built to this diagram, each carrying the number of their condemned predecessor.
Features
- Many separately fitted parts, including highly detailed brake gear, running boards, lamp irons, ogees, and a chimney.
- Interior detail including guard’s desk, stove, and pigeonholes.
- Fitted with metal bearings for free running
The Models
The following versions of this brake van are now available to order. Tooling is already underway, with samples expected later this year.
