Revell New Tooling: 1:32 Gloster Meteor F.8
The Gloster Meteor was Britain’s first operational jet fighter and a landmark in aviation history. Developed by the Gloster Aircraft Company during the Second World War, it first flew in 1943 and entered Royal Air Force service in July 1944. Powered by pioneering turbojet engines developed from Frank Whittle’s work, the Meteor represented a major leap forward in aircraft technology.
Although introduced late in the war, the Meteor saw combat intercepting German V-1 flying bombs over Britain, becoming the Allies’ only jet aircraft to engage operationally in WWII. Its straight-wing design was less advanced than the German Messerschmitt Me 262, but it proved reliable and effective in service.
Post-war, the Meteor evolved through numerous variants, including fighter, night fighter, and reconnaissance roles, and served with air forces worldwide. It also saw combat in the Korean War and helped set early jet speed records. With nearly 4,000 built, the Meteor remains an iconic subject for aviation modellers, representing the dawn of the jet age.
