Rapido Trains UK has unveiled an extensive new OO gauge wagon range, centred around South Eastern Railway and South Eastern & Chatham Railway prototypes, alongside a fresh batch of its popular 6-wheel brake vans. This latest announcement focuses on highly detailed, historically rich rolling stock, offering a wide spread of liveries from SER through to Southern Railway and early British Railways periods. Designed to complement existing models, including SECR locomotives, this release provides modellers with the ideal stock to create authentic pre-grouping and early grouping-era freight formations.
5 Plank 10t Open Wagons
The new 5-plank 10 ton open wagons mark Rapido’s first venture into round-ended OO gauge wagon tooling, covering multiple diagram variations including D1340 and D1341 designs. With three distinct body types, including round-ended, low-D ended and square-ended versions, the range reflects the development and variation of these wagons from their late 19th century origins through to Southern Railway service. A wide selection of liveries is offered, from SER red to SE&CR greys and later SR browns, capturing the transition between railway companies. Built with a high level of detail throughout, these wagons are ideal for forming realistic goods trains across a variety of eras.
6 Wheel Brake Vans
To accompany the open wagons, Rapido has announced a new batch of its SECR 20 ton 6-wheel brake vans, expanding on a well-established model with additional liveries and tooling variations. This release includes both single veranda and dual veranda versions, reflecting the evolution of the prototype from its original 1898 design through later modifications and rebuilds. Covering liveries from SER and SE&CR through to Southern Railway and BR, these brake vans provide an authentic finishing touch to period freight consists. Updates such as revised coupling mounts further enhance their practicality for modern layouts, making them a strong companion to the newly announced wagon range.
