Trix has announced a striking addition to its American-outline range with a brand-new tooling of the Southern Pacific “Coffin” Berkshire 2-8-4 steam locomotive, representing SP No. 3505. The Berkshire wheel arrangement marked an important step forward in steam locomotive design, combining four driving axles with leading and trailing axles to improve stability on curves while allowing for a longer boiler and larger firebox. This development delivered greater power and higher speeds, helping freight railroads meet the demands of America’s rapidly expanding rail network.

Alongside the locomotive, Trix has also introduced a Southern Pacific mixed freight wagon set, providing modellers with an ideal consist to run behind this impressive new engine. Together, these releases capture the character of mid-century American freight operations, offering collectors and operators a cohesive train built around one of the more unusual and distinctive Berkshire locomotive designs.
