Details
Following the success of the Coronation services, the London and North Eastern Railway introduced a new high-speed train in 1937 to operate between London King's Cross railway station, Leeds and Bradford. Named the West Riding Limited, the train used a specially built articulated carriage set similar to the Coronation stock, though without the streamlined observation car. The coaches were arranged in twin pairs, sharing a bogie between vehicles to reduce friction, improve ride quality and maintain high average speeds.
The first run took place on 27 September 1937, hauled by the streamlined LNER Class A4 No. 4492 Dominion of New Zealand, achieving an average speed of over 63 mph between London and Bradford. Services were suspended during the Second World War but resumed in 1949, and the West Riding name continues in use today on modern services.
This OO gauge articulated coach pack represents coaches ‘C’ and ‘D’ from the formation. These vehicles were first-class open coaches, offering enhanced comfort for passengers and fitted with lavatories at each end. Faithfully reproduced with fine detailing and accurate proportions, these models are ideal for recreating authentic LNER streamlined express trains on pre-war or early BR-era model railway layouts.
