Details
Following the success of the streamlined Coronation services, the London and North Eastern Railway introduced the prestigious West Riding Limited in 1937, operating between London King's Cross railway station, Leeds and Bradford. The train featured a specially built articulated carriage set based on the Coronation design, with coaches arranged in twin pairs sharing a central bogie to reduce friction and improve ride quality while maintaining high average speeds.
The first service ran on 27 September 1937, hauled by the streamlined LNER Class A4 No. 4492 Dominion of New Zealand, achieving an average speed of over 63 mph between London and Bradford. Operations were suspended during the Second World War but resumed in 1949, and the West Riding name continues to be used on modern services today.
This OO gauge articulated coach pack represents the final pair of vehicles from the formation, comprising an open third-class coach with lavatory and a third-class brake coach providing alternative accommodation for the train’s guard. Accurately modelled with fine detailing and authentic proportions, these coaches are ideal for recreating realistic LNER streamlined express formations on pre-war or early British Railways era model railway layouts.
