Details
Following the success of the streamlined Coronation services, the London and North Eastern Railway introduced the prestigious West Riding Limited in 1937, operating between London King's Cross railway station, Leeds and Bradford. The train featured a specially constructed articulated carriage set based on the Coronation design, comprising four twin coach pairs. Each pair shared a central bogie, reducing friction and improving ride quality while maintaining impressive high-speed performance.
The inaugural service ran on 27 September 1937, hauled by the streamlined LNER Class A4 No. 4492 Dominion of New Zealand, achieving an average speed of over 63 mph between London and Bradford. Although services were suspended during the Second World War, they resumed in 1949, and the West Riding name continues in modern use today.
This OO gauge coach pack represents vehicles ‘E’ and ‘F’ from the original formation, comprising a Third Class Open Coach and a further vehicle offering third-class seating alongside a second kitchen area. Faithfully capturing the articulated design and elegant LNER styling, these highly detailed models are perfect for recreating authentic pre-war streamlined express trains on any LNER or early British Railways era layout.
